Former FBI Director James Comey isn’t holding back any details about his encounters with powerful government officials in his forthcoming book, A Higher Loyalty.
In fact, Comey paints a picture that’s arguably a tad too descriptive about a physical interaction he had with ex-Attorney General Loretta Lynch, recalling the experience as awkward and particularly tense. HuffPost obtained an early copy of the book and published a report detailing the exchange on Friday afternoon.

But Lynch, Comey says, didn’t offer any direct endorsement of his decision during a meeting right before the election, on Oct. 31. Comey describes an awkward hug between himself and Lynch, who is roughly 18 inches shorter than he is, in great detail.
“When our bodies came together, her face went into my solar plexus as she wrapped her arms around me. I reached down and pressed both forearms, also awkwardly, against her back,” he writes.
It’s probably the most physically disturbing interaction Comey outlines in his book but far from the most controversial. President Donald Trump and his allies have unleashed a smear campaign against the former FBI director ahead of his book release, with White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders telling reporters on Friday, “This is nothing more than a poorly-executed PR stunt by Comey to desperately rehabilitate his tattered reputation and enrich his own bank account by peddling a book that belongs in the bargain bin.”
“One of the president’s greatest achievements will go down as firing Director James Comey,” she added.
And one of Comey’s greatest achievements will almost certainly not be hugging the former attorney general.
